How Did It All Begin?
Early in the year 2007 a group of enthusiastic people of Czech and Slovak origin met to discuss, and eventually bring to reality the idea of a special Fundraising Gala Evening.
The title of the Gala was inspired by the fact that 2008 commemorates dates, all ending with number ‘8’, a number that played a significant role in the history of both Czech and Slovak nations (1918, 1938, 1948 and 1968 to name a few). The name of “The Great Ball of Eights” was born!
For 2009 the Czech and Slovak communities are coming together again, but under a different name; the Bohemian Ball 2009 organized by the Canada Czech Republic Chamber of Commerce under the auspices of the Consul General of the Czech Republic will be held on February 20th, 2009 at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
With your support, on February 20th, 2009 the results of all the hard work will bear fruits and we all will truly enjoy the evening knowing that we helped to support a worthy cause, The SickKids Foundation. Purchase your tickets today!

On February 15, 2008 at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York, Czechs and Slovaks held the first ever ‘gala’ fundraising event in support of the SickKids Foundation. The black tie affair has raised over $9,000 for Sick Kids. The evening featured musical entertainment by Kevin Clark’s Rhythm Section during, George Grosman’s “Music on the Corner” and Kevin Clark’s Big Band sound for everyone's dancing pleasure. The evening’s MC was Jaymz Bee from JAZZ FM91. The evening concluded with a live auction, which gave away a trip for two to Prague, Czech Republic.
